We thought you might like to see how we came up with our artwork. The slide show below shows the drawings Anna sent me. Each time she would ask me if she was on the right track, and each time I’d either say “Wow!” or make suggestions and then say “Wow!” (She’s amazing, isn’t she?)
We started with the characters. Of course Amanda came first. I had described her a certain way in the book: shoulder-length brown hair, brown eyes, baby face. But when Anna started to draw her, I realized I would have to make her more distinctive, so I gave her hair like mine: long and bushy, and with a tendency to get caught on low-hanging tree branches.
